I thought I better set them down so I can find them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Parents are the first and essential teachers of their children.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Parents know their children better than anyone AND are biased and may be conflicted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Educators (the team, not necessarily THE teacher) know \u201cchildren\u201d better than any parent and can contextualize and advise parents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wise parents listen. Wise educators defer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>That partnership must be based on trust.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Public schools are the hub of diverse communities and should be considered an investment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teachers serve\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>as professional educators, providing consultation and partnership with parents;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>as more experienced co-learners, providing wisdom, support, guidance, and an example for students;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and as contributing members of a community of learners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learning is not linear. It is not bound by time nor place.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A culture of learning embraces change, diversity, flexibility, growth, and innovation built on a respect for tradition and history.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learners best experience the joy of learning and working in a safe and secure educational environment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learning encompasses critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, citizenship, technology literacy, perseverance and resiliency.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expertise is a team sport<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently I have had the opportunity to think deeply and consider what I have found to be foundational to my views on public education.
